Nissan’s top-selling midsize sedan is getting a mid-generation update. The 2023 Nissan Altima arrives for its new model year with an expanded list of technology features and styling enhancements.
Serving as the in-between point for Nissan’s sedan lineup, the Altima’s “just-right” size has made it a popular choice for drivers across the country. Now with an even more attractive array of features, the 2023 Altima is set to lead its segment for this model year.
At the time of writing, the 2023 Nissan Altima is not yet on sale. It is expected to arrive in Las Vegas, NV during the fall of 2022.
2023 Nissan Altima Overview: Trims & Pricing
Described as Nissan’s “family sedan,” the Altima has earned this title for its award-winning safety and best-in-class fuel economy. With a diverse trim lineup for drivers to choose from, it makes a great vehicle for students, urban commuters, and families alike.
For 2023, the Altima arrives with two available engines and four well-equipped grades. The trims are as follows: S FWD, SV (FWD or AWD), SR (FWD or AWD), SL (FWD or AWD), and SR VC-Turbo FWD.
Pricing for the sixth-generation vehicle has not been announced. However, it is expected to start slightly higher than its previous model year. The 2022 Altima started at $24,900, so it’s anticipated that the 2023 Altima will start at around $26,000.
2023 Nissan Altima Redesign
The midsize sedan gets some minor tweaking for this model year. To start, Nissan has refreshed the Altima with their new logo. This updated branding was first seen on the brand’s flagship all-electric SUV, the 2023 Nissan Ariya. Additionally, the 2023 Altima sports a redesigned front fascia and new wheels. On SV models, the vehicle is equipped with 17-inch wheels, while the SR, SL, and SR VC-Turbo sport 19-inch wheels.
Unique to SR models is a special “black chrome” grille finish, which differentiates it from the other trims. Other modifications on the Altima lineup include standard LED headlights with daytime running lights, a new tail light design, and an available single-panel moonroof.
Similar to last year’s model, the 2023 Altima will arrive in 7 exterior colors. These paints include: Scarlet Ember Tintcoat, Brilliant Silver Metallic, Gun Metallic, Super Black, Pearl White TriCoat, Glacier White, and Deep Blue Pearl. New for 2023 will be two additional exterior colors, Gray Sky Pearl and Garnett Pearl Metallic.
Two Powertrain Options
The Altima gives drivers the choice between two dynamic powertrain options. The first is a 2.0-liter Variable Compression (VC) Turbo, which generates the performance of a V6 engine but with better fuel economy. This option is exclusive to the Altima SR FWD and makes for a smooth 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy ratings are estimated at 25 MPG city, 34 MPG highway, and 29 MPG combined.
For the rest of the lineup, an advanced 2.5-liter DOHC engine comes standard. On its FWD variations, it is rated at 188 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. On the AWD models, it bumps slightly down to 182 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. Fuel efficiency still remains strong on models equipped with this engine as MPG averages about 27 MPG city, 37 MPG highway, and 31 MPG combined.
All 2023 Altima vehicles come equipped with an Xtronic transmission. For the SR grade, paddle shifters are also included.
Cabin Comfort
SUVs aren’t the only cars with a ton of space. The Altima is the perfect example of thoughtful design and ample room. Its spacious trunk offers 15.4 cu ft of cargo room. But fold the rear seats down and that expands to a massive 42.9 cu ft. of cargo space.
The Altima also mimics an upscale SUV with its crafted fabrics and paneling. Luxurious in both design and materials, the Altima utilizes dual-stitching and a two-toned color scheme making it both pleasing to the eye and to the touch.
New for 2023 is a 12.3-inch screen, which replaces the previous year’s 8.0-inch display. This new premium size is the same one found in the elite Nissan Armada full-size SUV. With crystal clear graphics thanks to its high-resolution display, the new touch screen makes it easier than ever to create shortcuts, find directions, and play music with the touch of a button.
Other available interior features include:
Single panel moonroof Bose Premium Audio system with nine speakers Active Noise Cancellation Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control Available heated front seats and heated steering wheel Amazon Alexa
Nissan Altima 2023 Safety & Tech
Safety is a core value woven throughout Nissan’s entire brand. Like all the vehicles in their lineup, the Altima is packed with segment-leading technology and Intelligent Driving features. For its 2023 model year, the midsize sedan comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360.
With this technology, drivers get better control and oversight in places they can’t see. Some features of the system include:
Around View Monitor Back-Up Intervention Blind Spot Intervention Lane Intervention Forward Collision Warning Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection Traffic Sign Recognition High Beam Assist Cruise Control Trace Control
There’s also an available semi-autonomous drive model, ProPILOT Assist. This allows the vehicle to brake, accelerate, and steer, based on road traffic recognition. Other available features for the 2023 Altima include Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, Door-to-Door Navigation, WiFi hotspots, and wireless smartphone charging.
